GOD DESIGNED YOUR LIFE TO HAVE AN IMPACT ON ETERNITY.

I’m sure Tom didn’t anticipate leaving this life at the age of forty-two. He was in excellent health, active, and disciplined about his diet and exercise. But while he didn’t expect to die at a young age, he did work intentionally to create a legacy for his children and his children’s children.

In his last years on earth, Tom devoted himself to the study of God’s Word and the application of that Word to his life. He was absolutely determined to be the husband and father God wanted him to be. As a result, he left Jennifer, Tommy, and me with an incredible inheritance—a legacy—of faith, love, and obedience to God.

That legacy has been a constant source of strength and encouragement for the three of us. Even now it continues to bless us. Hopefully it is a legacy that will be passed down for generations to come.

As I write about Tom’s legacy, my inclination is to paint only a positive picture, Tom really was an exceptional person—not just in my eyes but in the eyes of many people. He maintained integrity and excellence in just about everything he attempted to do.

But he was not perfect. Neither am I, In previous chapters you’ve read about some of our struggles. Those difficult times were real, and they were painful. Ultimately Tom and I were just like most couples, working through the good and the bad and growing stronger in the process.
